Just noticed someone else asked also and you gave animus, but I don't think it is that as it ends in "t" because the word across which uses the "t" is "ute" for "utility", so I need to keep the "t". I have had this clue before and stupidly I did not write down the answer when someone gave it to me, but I certainly will this time, because it's really obscure.
