94d appraising, g-u-ing. I had grading but grounds at 105a put a u in the middle. Sort of a fly in the ointment moment.
and in Goliathon
65d unpredictably, e--a-i-a--y. Probably ally at the end but I have no clue at all.

Thanks nextone, found gauging was what I was looking for. And erratically, so obvious when you think outside the square. Much appreciated.

Thanks cherrie, gauging was what I simply couldn't get as I started out with grading, but of course the middle letter was all wrong.
