Yes have checked other words. This is my 88 year old mother's comp. She is brilliant but stuck on this last one. I thought cert but the other clue is Milo's daughter for which she has Ariadne. all other letters fit so it is a bit of a mystery. Like you I think it has to be cert. If I can confirm that I will look at the other clues with her. Thanks
I hope someone who has done the crossword will come along and be a bit more helpful too, but in the meantime it might interest you to know that Ariadne was also known as Areatha. Don't know if that helps.

That was my first answer until h7856 said the clue was supposed to read 'dead c?rd', so now I'm a bit confused. Do you have the puzzle? If so,what does it actually say?

I don't do crosswords but my mother really enjoys doing them.She uses a selection of reference books and dictionaries (one of them a prize) and keeps an index book of obscure answers so I think "draw card" will go in.
