Thank you Cherrie your word ARGUS was right. When l looked up watchful guardian, there was not a mention of argus, but l put in Argus/watchful guardian and it came up with it. Just goes to show how we crosswords have to dig and search to find the correct words. You are fountain of knowledge Cherrie,where do you hail from. l live in South Wales.UK.ttfn

I lived in Queensland many years ago. I was glad to move back down here, I couldn't handle the heat day after day. It gets pretty warm here too, but at least we know that there will be an end to it sooner or later.

I am the reverse to you. Lived many years in Melbourne. Couldnt handle the cold. Have now been in Brisbane 32 years and love that heat.....Well most of the time. For the rest we have air conditioning.

I can see that air conditioning would make a difference - although you still have to go outside sometimes - but when I lived there 30 years ago, it wasn't standard in houses like it is now. We lived in five different places and none of them had it.
But it wasn't just the heat itself, it was the predictability of it. You know it's going to be hot again tomorrow, and the next day, and next week and so on.
I much prefer the unpredictability of Victorian weather any time.
