Sculptures must, for example, be stable, which requires an understanding of the properties of mass, weight distribution, and stress.

If I do not put comma after stable like ---

Sculptures must, for example, be stable which requires an understanding of the properties of mass, weight distribution, and stress.

Will the meaning of the sentence change ?
I think the comma after stable indicates modification of the whole sentence "Sculptures must be stable. "

The comma depends more on style than meaning. It's used where you want a slight pause. An alternative:

Sculptures must for example be stable, which requires an understanding of the properties of mass, weight distribution and stress.

I like removal of the first two but not the last
