Having problems with one clue. Unsure about other clues/answers now, but here goes. Any help would be much appreciated.
122 across - Reticent (8) R-SER-EN I thought at first that RESERVED was right, but the final letter, n, comes from 98 down - Vanquished - which I have as BEATEN

Oh no, it didn't work! Sounded fine, but can't make it work. For vanquished (6) the letters are be-te- Any more ideas?
