I have a lot of mineral deposits on my tap and want to clean them off. Also my shower head needs to be cleaned. How does one do this without damaging the tap or the shower.

@alexis1,
CLR = it's a calcium, lime, rust cleaner. You can get it at Walgreen's or online.

Thanks Jespah. Can this be used both for the tap and the shower head? Does it need to be used just once and it comes off completely. Thanks again for your inputs.

@alexis1,
From the CLR website:

Quote:
Clean your faucets and shower heads so they'll shine! CLR is safe on chrome and stainless steel as long as the fixture is in good condition. Do not use CLR on galvanized metal or cast iron. Wearing household rubber gloves, test a small area on your facet with CLR then submerge the sprayer/sprayer head in a container of half warm water and half CLR. After two minutes remove the sprayer/sprayer head from the solution and immediately rinse with cold water. If there are still deposits, repeat the process. CLR will clean out the sprayer's jets and allow the water to flow freely.

@alexis1,
You can also try cleaning your taps with a bit of toothpaste on a cloth - sometimes that works and it's cheap and already in the bathroom! Smile

@Mame,
And if it's a floride toothpaste, it works just great on rust.

@roger,
Doesn't all toothpaste contain fluoride?

@Mame,
No. Well, maybe up there, but I doubt that too.

@alexis1,
The simplest way to remove them are to just take them out and put them in a bucket full of lemon juice for about 2 hours and after that take them out and clean them of. if it doesn't work then there are many cleaning chemical products in market go there buy one and use if ..

@paulsmith544,
We should uninstall our water faucets and put them in a bucket of lemon juice?

That sounds like a lot of work, and a heck of a lot of lemons.

Wow! The toothpaste idea seems cheaper faster and convenient. I will try it today itself. If it doesn't work then there is always that solution mentioned before which I can buy and try. But thanks for the toothpaste idea.

@karev321,
That's just to get water spots off your faucets, not mineral deposits in your shower head. For that you need to remove the shower head and soak it in CLR. Google it and you'll see.
