It's probably sun. Why? Because when most cryptic crosswords (and not just from the company that puts out Colossus, etc.) are constructed, a "sound alike" clue (assuming the clue is like that) is separate from the actual clue. Hence in the overall clue, you can divvy it up as follows -
Mentioned relative <-- this means it sounds like 'son'
has overhead light <-- this is the actual definition
