Presumably for "crop" ▸ verb: feed as in a meadow or pasture, in other words stop in for quick one and possibly a chat. Am I right

"Pick" is a very loose term, leaves one wondering for instance what could be so special about someone who interrupts his shopping for coffee. By "clicks" I guess you mean to interact. Am I correct

Dale, a top is the same as a cover. That is, one place at a table. The usage is good, even if you don't allow poetic license.

Every trade has it's jargon; sometimes silly, sometimes useful.

I worked for awhile in a motel with restaurant, and the manager was going nuts. He said something like "I'm short two waitresses and suddenly three tables walk in the door". Tables don't walk, of course, but we knew what he ment.
