What version of Windows are you running?
2 things to try:
First, open Outlook Express. Click on Tools>Options>Maintenance. Look for “Compact messages in the background” and uncheck it.
If that doesn't work, try searching for "indexing options" or "search options." If you open that, see if Outlook Express is listed. If it is, click "Modify," and uncheck it. Click "OK" and closed the options window.
