The Sensex was up 6.57 points at 18868.11, and the Nifty moved up 3.55 points at 5696.60. Power Grid was the top gainer with 2.78 percent gains, followed by Jindal Steel. In the IT space, Wipro rose 1.40 percent, Infosys was up close to 1 percent, Tech Mahindra jumped 2.32 percent and Mahindra Satyam rose 1.7 percent. TCS, Howver, was down 1.04 percent. Mphasis was disowned after it reported lower-than-expected quarterly numbers.

Equity benchmarks continued to fall for the third straight day due to sustained selling by funds amid a weak trend in Asian regions.
The 30-share barometer Sensex, which had lost over 118 points in the previous two sessions, fell further by 107.13 points or 0.55% at 19457.79 at 10.45 AM tracking losses in consumer durable, auto and information technology stocks. Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki in the auto space were trading down by 1.5 percent each and Infosys in the IT sector had lost nearly 2 percent, causing a serious blow to the market.

The Sensex is down 433.56 points or 2.41 percent at 17534.52 after hitting an intraday low of 17448.71, and the Nifty is down 139.85 points or 2.64 percent at 5147.60.Indian rupee breached the 68-mark, hitting a record low of 68.67 against the US dollar, down 246 paise from previous close.
