'Three Cups of Tea' author Greg Mortenson battles a civil lawsuit
Are readers who bought 'Three Cups of Tea' entitled to compensation?

Quote:
Fresh off a $1 million deal with the Montana Attorney General’s office to settle allegations that he mishandled his charity’s money, “Three Cups of Tea” author Greg Mortenson is back in federal court Wednesday to fight a civil lawsuit that claims that he fabricated parts of his bestselling memoirs.

Has anyone here tried to get their money refunded when they found out that much of Greg Mortenson's memoir was faked? Or that he had mishandled money sent by those who read the memoir and were affected by what they read, money that was meant for charitable purposes which was supposed to address the alleged issues written about in the memoir?

@tsarstepan,
I certainly enjoyed reading the book and I don't care if certain parts were
fiction. On the other hand, I never donated money to his cause, so I am not
financially vested in this.

@CalamityJane,
Ive heard of the flap on NPR but Ive never heard of the memoirs, nor have I had anyone else claim to have read em. Whats the point of his memoirs beibg faked? Was he using his memoirs as a sales pitch? You mean that all those ads on TV coud be ies??? When someone writes a book about themsellves (Theodor Roosevelt included), I suspectn that most of it is either made up or embellished to adegree that can only serve to honor the subject

@farmerman,
"Three Cups of Tea" isn't Mortenson's memoires, farmerman. He wrote about what he encountered in Afghanistan and Pakistan, how he helped build schools for girls there. If he embellished his story about it, I don't see anything wrong with it.
On the other hand, he had received donations for his work and to build additional schools. If the donations were specifically for that cause alone
and he misused the funds, then the suit is liable.
