Stuck with last two clues: "Cod liver", I have o_l and "avoided giving decision", I have h_d_ed. Any ideas? Thanks!

If the clue is "cod liver ___" it's "oil". For years when I was a kid I had to get a spoonful of cod liver oil a day, gods only knows why, and I hated the stuff. Still can't stand it.
Ah, I see Strauss beat me to it. Just the thought of cod liver oil deprived me of full use of my senses for a crucial moment there.
