The Critical Mass

Even a tyranny or authoritarian state may yet tolerate non-believers, where they are considered a harmless minority, either altruistic or politically inactive. But the authoritarian society or state is unlikely to tolerate any politically active minority. At some point the minority may reach a critical mass. This was presumably the situation in Palestine, which brought about civil war and the creation of Israel. Anarchist, or laissez faire society, has to protect its individualistic freedom. Altruistic society has to decide at what point rational mutual benefit gives way to religious myopia.

I have been reading about the Counter Revolution in France which actually began before the revolution... One counter revolutionary writer in fact, laid the first act of revolt on the nobles, but also recognized the contribution of the capitalist who even in that age and under the protection of the King showed extreme greed, and engaged in intrigues for their own benefit... The Nobles like our Tea Party represent reaction and it was their efforts to secure special privilages that could not stand without the support, or acceptance of the whole society... And that support out of necessity was missing from every class of people looking to their own welfare and survival... Clearly, you can see in France a lot of freedom of speech and thought at work, But it was mismanaged government which made revolution inevitable... As some of the reactionary writers noted, even De Tocqueville; Revolution could have come from the top as well as the bottom, and could have been much less bloody... Look at Caesar... His was a revolution from above made possible by a displaced lower class of citizen... Those who killed him were from his own class, and they were right to view him as a traitor to their principals... But left to himself, and given sufficient time he might have created a new, international Latin society with universal citizenship that was capable of resisting any threat... And, he did well enough considering Constantinople did rule vast areas until the late middle ages, and they were essentially Roman with a Greek flavor...

Revolutions from above do not go far enough, and to the extent they forstall revolution they invite disaster... Revolutions like that of France, because they are caused by the greed of a new predatory class feuding with an old predatory class -will never go far enough and so will be too weak to resist counter revolution...From the point of view of the capitalists, they only wanted working people to have enough rights to lend support to the capitalist, and because they denuded the masses of rights, the poor could not support the rich against the retrenchment of the royalists...

It makes you wonder since the Jews were waging a slow burn war on the Palastinians for years before the country was created...The dogs the Arabs kept made it almost impossible for the Jews to get away with much, so they told the British that the dogs had rabbies, and no more problem
