Ok. I picked up my new iPad on Friday and I've been playing with it over the weekend. The short summary is, I love it!
The resolution on the display is superb, the new camera is great and the weight and size are perfect for portability and usability in combination (since those two things are inversely proportional in many ways).
The device is also very fast. Not only does the screen respond instantly when you manipulate it, swiping and clicking and such, but it runs every app and web page pretty much as fast as you can maneuver through it.
The biggest drawback to this device, as well as the iPod's is that the screen is still shiny and highly reflective. So if you're outside in bright light it can be virtually useless (works more like a mirror than a screen in some conditions). So I wouldn't use this for reading books outside or anything like that. Some of the Kindle's I've seen are much better at outdoor reading.
However, since I do most of my reading before sleep at night, this isn't a problem for me. I've started reading a lot more "books" (virtual books) again pretty much because this device, and the iPod before it, are so much better than a physical book. And I can get virtually any book I want instantly online. I'm using the iBook app as well as the Kindle App (both free) to purchase any books I want.
I've been using an iPod for years, but this is the first iPad (and first tablet) I've owned. I have no idea how this one compares to the other tablet brands out there, but there isn't really anything this one doesn't do that I want, and it's as fast and smooth as I can keep up with, so I'm a satisfied.
