(hell as in a literal place where one suffers eternally, as opposed to annihilation, an absence of god etc)
I don't know about hell but he did believe that pressure exerted anywhere in a confined incompressible fluid is transmitted equally in all directions throughout the fluid such that the pressure ratio (initial difference) remains the same. That's pretty literal to me.
