Giant Cryptic - 55 down (7) pulling into clearing - is it earring or earning? I work it out as earring - have letters e-r-i-g, but as 'pulling' can be to pull in a salary, could this be earning? Hope someone out there understands what I'm rambling on about! Grateful for any help.

ask yourself how either clue means earring whilst simultaneously contemplating that both clues mean earning
