Yes, the "esssential" experience I do not doubt, explanations for it I do. And if I were a scientist I would have an on-going almost contractual obligation to doubt current explanations for it. "Raw" experience is foundational--the only foundation for me--when it is "cooked" it takes on the quality of being delightfully problematical.
