I wonder why they never showed the lions eating the other animals when the circle of life song was going on in that movie - now that would have really taught the little kiddies something.

@Setanta,
Forget the circle of life song - this poem really brings tears to my eyes.

It's an old song, and, i believe, from New England . . .
Here's what i found online, the lyrics from a broadside printed in 1858 (?) in England:
Oh, fare thee well, my dear Mary Anne,
Our days have all gone by;
Spring is coming, and soon I'll be gone,
But, I'll come back, don't you cry, my dear Mary Anne.
A lobster dies in the boiling pot,
Oh, pity the bluefish, too;
But, they're quickly gone and they suffer not,
The way I cry for you, my dear Mary Anne.
Oh, fare thee well, my dear Mary Anne,
Our days have all gone by;
Spring is coming, and soon I'll be gone,
But, I'll come back, don't you cry, my dear Mary Anne.
Oh, don't you see the pretty turtle dove,
That flies from pine to pine;
Crying for its own true love,
The way I cry for you, my dear Mary AndAnne.
Oh, fare thee well, my dear Mary Anne,
Our days have all gone by;
Spring is coming, and soon I'll be gone,
But, I'll come back, don't you cry, my dear Mary Anne.
And this is the 1963 recording by The New Christy Minstrels:
