@Barb Walker,
Hi Barb

I have the following:
19d = springs
37a = elsa
55d = anthems

Not my speciality Barb but I give them a go. Have you seen the Ultimate Reader's Digest Puzzel Book yet?

@Dutchy,
Not Perth, probably handy meaning spirited from Hydan in WA and the head letter of hot, but it's a big ask cryptically.

@Dutchy,
Ok jokes aside it must be Perth but I gather you have no letter clues to go with those other cryptic questions? Any other info?

appreciated

@laughoutlood,
The secret word consists of 5 letters. If I accept "appreciated" for 7a,(I was grateful for a very soft rice and date pudding (11 letters) the first two letters are 'AE'.
If Perth is correct,the first three letters are "AEP"
I have 'splitsecond' for 18a, (An instant dessert for boxer's assistant (5,6 letters) now giving me the first four letters as "AEPP"
Now the clue for 14d is 'Artist leaves caramel for desert animal (5 letters). I submit the answer here would be 'camel'.
This now gives me the following 5 letters: AEPPL. Obviously this is not a word, so we're wrong somewhere!

@Dutchy,
Pardon my tardiness, I just came in to say split second.

The answers look to be correct so can the e go at the end to form apple ie the letters are meant to be an anagram of the answer?

Words ending in ppl don't come quite so trippingly off my tongue as some others.
