21 ac all I can come up with here is CLOUT but this doesnt match the clue definition which is open handed blow and the definition of CLOUT is a blow with a FIST.Am I missing something here?.philcottie

Clout is the correct answer. You're looking in the wrong direction when you talk about "blow with a fist".

thanks dutchy I bow to your superiop knlwledge, but I have another one namely
mighty mega contest 141 across.Every where I look the clue should be fee fi fo fum which makes the second word 2 letters and it needs 3 letters.Could this be FIE I.E. fe or fee fie fo fum.Have contacted Lovatts for clarification.philcottie

Hi philcottie. The original words are fe, fi, fo, fum from Jack the Giant killer, however FIE is a variant which is also used, particularly in puzzles. Smile
