Wow! Great link, John.

and about that 666. I have heard that's it's 999, as in turning a crucifix upsidedown.

Actually, I think, all this symbolism (especially of numbers) has to do with ... well, I don't know.

When you look here
Symbolism of Numbers
the '6' doesn't look that bad at all.

Thanks for the links. It's very interesting to me the significance we humans have placed on something so mundane as numbers.

Numbers? Mundane? No, my friend, they are magical. Magical indeed. For instance, did you know that if you added a 4 to a 6, it comes out with a 10? Shocked Yes! Something completely different, AND with another digit, from two completely unrelated numbers!!! You would expect something like 46, or 64, but no! You get 10!!! Exclamation Shocked

numbers & maths does seem mundane but they are used to prove all scientific facts. If you alter one number in a design, say the length of one side of a triangle it impacts on the other 2 sides. On a more complex level, think of the numbers/measurements required to launch a space craft & get it to the Mars. One or two errors could throw the whole thing off line

Exactly...and to think that some legislatures wanted to round off pi to 3.00.
We would never have made it to the moon, and Tom Hanks would never have gotten to make Apollo 13.

OK, ok I didn't mean numbers themselves were mundane per se....
I merely meant, I find it wierd humans put so much stock into a digit. I understand the implication, the neccesity of the numbers in science, mathematics, medicine............. and so on..........
It just seems silly to place a set of beliefs onto a number. Numbers have spawned hocus pocus, phobias, fears and luck (numerology) not just scientific ideas.
So no, numbers are not mundane but the human need to explain the unexplainable is evident in the lore of numbers. The ideas, while not mundane, are tied to numbers and the process seems so simplistic. Not really based on anything but time and old wives tales.

Hey, Canada, we wuz jest teasin 'ya. In the game of dice, however, it is my understanding that the numbers 7 and 11 are quite rare at coming up on the toss. Same way with the lottery and casinos. As for lucky numbers, I doubt there is a significance beyond superstitions.

Do you know what they call fear of Friday the 13th?

Istanbul, e.g., Bamberg (Germany), Berlin (Germany), Lisboa, Glasgow, Sonora (CA,. USA), ...

... equals your eight, OLK.

I could add about five more from the mountain region in my close surrounding, which claim to be built on 7 hills (and actually: they are).
