The A2K Christmas Tree

An earlier question (with poll) determined that the proper topping for a Christmas tree is a star.

Now, we have the rest of the tree to decorate. Please add your favorite ornament and the story behind the ornament.

I'm adding a Serpent of Wisdom. As a proto-Goth teenager many years ago I had snake head earrings and a matching snake to coil around my dainty wrists. The Serpent of Wisdom makes an elegant ornament.

Please Note: My approach to Christmas trees is not everyone's. Mr. Noddy gasped the first year. The second year he went shopping in the toy department, doll's house furniture, and presented me with a kitchen sink.

All contributions to the A2K tree are welcome.

Noddy, I know a couple of guys that can probably help you out.

I'll send them over.

Thanks, Gus. Are they wired in series or parallel?

At any given time, most of us will have an AOL CD in our junk mail pile. How about recycling them into ornaments? There not worth a damn for anything else!

Nice idea, Noddy! Here's my ornament... a lucky pickle.

http://www.christmaschalet.com/legends/tn_28016_pickle.jpeg

I have just a little bit of German ancestry but I like the story behind the pickle* and I love

"The Motorcycle Song"
(words and music by Arlo Guthrie)

CHORUS:
I don't want a pickle
Just want to ride on my motorsickle
And I don't want a tickle
'Cause I'd rather ride on my motorsickle
And I don't want to die
Just want to ride on my motorcy...cle

It was late last night the other day
I thought I'd go up and see Ray
So l went up and I saw Ray
There was only one thing Ray could say, was:

CHORUS

This song is about the time that I was ridin' my motorcycle.
Going down a mountain road, at 150 miles an hour, playin'
my guitar. On one side of the mountain road there was a
mountain, and on the other side there was nothin' - there was
a cliff in the air.

Now, when you're going down a mountain road at I50 miles
an hour you gotta be very careful, especially if you're playin'
a guitar. Especially if that guitar is an acoustic guitar.
Because if it's an acoustic guitar, the wind pressure is greater
on the box side than on the neck side, because there's
more guitar on the box side. I wasn't payin' attention ..

Luckily I didn't go into the mountain - I went over the cliff.
I was goin' at 150 miles an hour sideways and 500 feet down
at the same time.

I knew it was the end. I looked down, I said ''Wow! Some
trip". I thought it...well I knew it was...I knew it was my last
trip, and in my last remaining seconds in world, I decided
to write one last farewell song to the world.

Put a new ink cartridge in my pen. Took out a piece of paper.
I sat back and I thought awhile. Then I started writin':
I don't want a pickle
Just want to ride on my motorsickle
And I don't want a tickle
'Cause I'd rather ride on my motorsickle

And I don't want to die
Just want to ride on my motorcy ...cle."

I knew that, it wasn't the best song l ever wrote, but I didn't
have time to change it. I was comin' down mighty fast.

But as you all know, and as fate would have it, I didn't die. I
landed on the top of a police car. And he died. I drove away
on the road that he was on. I came into town at a screamin'
175 miles an hour, playin' the motorcycle song.

I came into town, I jumped off my bike,
the bike went around the corner by itself,
went up on the stand by itself,
turned itself off.

I walked over to my friend.
He was standin' there eatin' pickles.
I said "Hi, what's happenin'?"
He looked at me in the eye and said "Nothin'".

You gotta sing it with that kind of enthusiasm.
Like you just squashed a cop**...

CHORUS

_______
*The pickle is a German symbol for good luck. Traditionally, German parents decorated the tree on Christmas Eve, hiding the pickle ornament last. On Christmas morning, the first child to locate the pickle was rewarded an extra special gift from St. Nicholas.

** with apologies to my brother-in-law, that ex-cop, and all cops everywhere. Really, it's just a song. Very Happy

I'll add the ornament that my husband made out of broken ones -- the upper half of a wooden toy soldier on the back of a rocking horse (that has only one "rocker"), holding the head of another toy soldier by the string attached to his crown. Morbidly festive -- and should go well with the snake! Smile

Piffka--

Every tree needs an elaborated pickle. Thank you.

LibertyD--

Three cheers for the steadfast, recycled soldier!

Noddy, I can see it. Colorbook brought four lengths of multi-colored lights and a Christmas ball with a pair of darling Black-Capped Chickadees with holly. Nice!

I like crystal icicles. I think we should have some of those, too.

I don't have AOL. Could this be the problem? Thanks to Piffka, I know a bit of what I'm missing. I particularly regret the invisible chickadees. The English are very sentimental about the little English robin, and I feel that way about chickadees.

Piffka--

Your crystal icicles are much appreciated. This is winter, after all. Icicles belong.

Noddy, you don't need AOL. Aol compresses graphics in your browser and you need to adjust it in order to see certain pictures.

I added the chickadees by itself. Can you see it now?

E.G. and I have several parallel ornaments, from when we were kids. We each had crafty aunts who helped us make ornaments using the precise same tiny Santa figurine. (His in a strange beribboned tube, mine in a strange be-beaded egg.) We have several felt and sequin Santas, snowmen, and elves that are nicely paired (his mine his mine...) We also both have felt and sequin personalized Christmas stockings. All of this dates from between 15 and 21 years before we knew of each others' existence.

Weird ornaments -- hmmm. I have several glass pomegranates. Lots of insects. (Bees, ladybugs, dragonflies, butterflies, et al.) LOTS of cats. Probably the weirdest is an old and decrepit cardinal from the 40's or so. Found it somewhere, liked it.

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. You can post your problem at the help desk, and of course they can help you much more than I can.

I'm posting one more picture. This is the A2k lounge with a beautiful Christmas tree, decorated with the help of Noddy and friends. Hope you can see it. If not, have a very Merry Christmas!

About 3 years ago, I couldn't figure out what to do with all the McDonalds toys that my children had started to collect. Being crafty at times...I decided to hot glue ribbons on each one. Ever since then our tree is trimmed in toys. Actually its quite cute. We have everything from the grinch to power rangers to pocahantas...from the top to bottom...its crowded.

I wish I had a pic of it.......lol
