I'm looking for a simple low-scent / no-scent face soap that does not dry out the facial skin or irritate it. I have tried Pears, Ivory and Lux and they are all OK, but tend to dry the facial skin a bit in winter. I'm not a big fan of skin goo and such, although I will use a bit of the classic Nivea goo.
For the last 10+ years we've been on well water, it’s more mineralized than the tap water.
I'm using Aveeno, ultra calming foaming cleanser.
I've been using Cetaphil for years and I love it. I have very sensitive skin, it
doesn't irritate or dry out my skin.
I use goat's milk soap.
My face hasn't fallen off, yet.....
@margo,
I use nothing but warm water for days at a time, and a nice french soap once in a while. I don't have a very babied face. I have of course saved a zillion dollars.
I'm thinking the dry skin problem is coming more from the mineral content in the water, not the soap.
For over a year, I lived in a place with well water, and I refused to wash my hair with it.
I would tote gallon jugs with me to work, where they had city water, and fill them up to wet and rinse my hair.
If you go to a good grocery store there will be a section where natural face creams, lotions, and soap, etc. That's a good place to buy products for sensitive skin, or whatever. I buy a Home Health facial cleansing gel that contains oils of tea tree, Lemongrass and Rosemary for cleansing and aloe vera, vegetable glycerin and 11 herbs to soothe and moisturize the skin. It has No parabens, no soap, no mineral oil and no artifical color.
It costs less than $10, think about $7 or $8. Eight fluid ounces, and it lasts forever if just used for the face. I'm amazed that I also use it all over in the shower, too. Mostly, I wash face just with water.
Just a note: I bought a small bottle of Johnson's Baby Gel (not oil) for legs, etc. The stuff is just like axel grease! But, you know something? It works well mixed in hand with regular lotion. I do remember, too, that that stuff we used to put on baby's bottom too prevent diaper rash (Desatin) was also like axel grease, but sure didn't let a bit of pee on baby's bottom. Hence, the gel.
For guys: My husband has oily skin and he uses one of my cleansing lotions that are a little sandy, on his face. He literally glows.

I barely ever use anything on my face other than warm water. I figure that whatever shampoo inadvertently gets on my face when I'm washing my hair is more than enough junk on my face.
I'm pretty cautious with the shampoo as well - use it only on my scalp from the top of the ears up - and try to avoid getting it on my face - conditioner is applied from the top of the ears down.
@Chumly,
Chumly, I rarely use soap anymore. I have very allergic skin but I do use warm water and a magic cloth. I buy them at the dollar store and they work very well to remove dry skin, oil ect.
@Pemerson,
Huh! I use a liquid soap based on tea tree oil. It seems to work real well, but I promise you don't want it in your eyes or mouth.
@roger,
I used to have two tea trees. They made me itch madly whenever I pruned them at all. No way I'll put the oil on my skin.
@Chumly,
Not cheap, but really the best:
You can get it by searching DHC Olive Oil Cleanser.
If you have dry skin, you'd be better off using a non-soap cleanser sort of thing. Perhaps a gel cleanser or something.
Neutrogena makes a very nice glycerin based soap that's also available fragrance-free.
I've used olive oil for years - as a makeup remover and as a moisturizer and dry skin lotion all over.
Absorbs right into the skin, since it's all natural. EVOO.
PS. I use the Aveeno only about once a week, if even that.
