@jayblaze0308,
What do you mean? Some of the land that is presently part of the United (capitalized) States of America?

The United States did not exist until well after the Atlantic coast of North America had been colonzied. The question is nonsensical. Had the English not colonized the portion of the Atlantic coast which they did in fact colonized, you can bet that other nations would have done so. Jamestownn was established in 1607. Samuel de Champlain established his colony at Québec in 1608. The French likely would have spread out further had there been no English colonies. Henry Hudson sailed up the river which now bears his name in 1609, and a Dutch colony was established there in 1624. The state which we now call Delaware was first colonized by the Swedes in 1638.

Had the English not established their colonies, be assured that other European nations would have staked their claims.

I agree. That's exactly what would have happened.

Can you be more specific?

Are you asking what the US would be like now if nobody within the last thousand years had ever discovered it? Or are you asking what would have happened if nobody crossed the land bridge from Asia thousands of years ago?

That's even more nonsensical than the question as initially interpreted. The answer to this latest absurdity is that it would not have happened. The Europeans would not have been sailing all over the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and yet have failed to notice two huge continents.

If you're asking for a homework assignment, tell your teacher that he or she is an idiot.

@Setanta,
Let's pursue on the absurdity:

- The natives would have developed a high technology civilization, colonized Europe and dominated the world.

- We would be talking Navajo.

Need other scenarii?

More likely, we would be speaking a Huron-Iroquoian language--those folks were organized, and the council of women was the most powerful organization. We wouldn't be gettin' no fire-water, either . . .

@Setanta,
Yeah, but de Champlain in this scenario didn't sail to your continent (can't call it America) so, no harm done.

I wonder what the Iroquois would have called the continent? Then there's the whole southern continent thing. If the Toltecs had ever become a sea-faring nation, Europe would have been in serious trouble.

@Setanta,
Europe has been in serious trouble in the past, even without the Toltecs.

Maybe the Europeans would have become Toltecatl(tle)...

@Francis,
And everyone on this continent would be complaining about those immigrant Europeans, stealing jobs and poluting the social environment with their weird religion . . .

Hey, are you going down to the sacrifice today? They're gonna cut the hearts out of three virgins and there's going to be a live band . . .

@Setanta,
Nah!

I'll be following the solstice cerimonial, but I've to be careful as it's forbidden and punished by death..

If the 48 contiguous United States were somehow magically isolated a thousand years ago and only allowed to evolve internally, then I suspect we would see an American Indian culture which was relatively similar to what it was just a few hundred years ago (before the primary European interactions began).

I say that because the Amerind cultures had a relatively naturalistic direction rather than a technological direction. Ultimately I think that technology would invade every human culture, but it would take longer in cultures that were surviving efficiently with a naturalistic behavior pattern.

@Setanta,
You can forget the southern continent thing. He's asking about united states. Canada and all that could be colonized as much as it wanted.
