October BIG

Stuck on this one rotten clue. Should be easy but think I've stuffed up somewhere. For 20a (amazed) I've got astounded, but I can't get 8d (inspire) which I was sure was elate (emote would fit but it can't be "emote" surely) so I think I need to get rid of the "o" and put another word in for astounded. Many thanks in advance. Always appreciate your help.
