I would like to know what people consider their most prized possesions in life. What/who do they value most.

If we're talking about possessions (only), I would list: books, journals I've kept, and letters...

When i was a child, i had an anti-materialist theme hammered at me by "good Catholics," the most of whom i would, as an adult, describe as both materialistic and selfish.

Ironically, although i came to reject religion and theism, the value of a non-materialist outlook made sense to me. There are many items which i possess which i would regret losing--but the regret would not be very strong, nor last very long.

I value my sweetheart, and i love her little dogs--i would not want to lose them. The rest is dross.

Lemme clear this up - the Mrs and kids are pretty special - you can have the Dog Wink and he knows it!

Ummm, with all due respect, I think the question had to do with "possessions," which I think precludes family and pets. Hence the responses of those of us who listed only objects.

Just don't want to be thought of as crass, is all...

I didn't respond as i did in order to embarrass anyone, D'art, i was simply responding to "What/who do they value most." I had no intention to come off as holier than thou (although, undoubtedly, i am) . . .

Hmm. . . possession-wise, books, and photographs, and my computer, because I have quite a few letters and emails and forum posts I wouldn't want to lose :-)

Non-possession-wise, that's pretty obvious. . . well. . . maybe he goes under possessions, too. . . <g> ;-) kidding! really!

hmmm, well, i don't possess the lad or the dogs.

trying to think of what i 'possess'. old family photos are probably what i value most among my possessions, though i am pretty fond of my new leopard print pants and skate-boarding sneaks.

now if i were to be asked what/who i value most, the answer would have to be different. though the old family photos are pretty high up on any list i could make up.

thank goodness, the scanner and puter have made the photos 'safer'. and a good friend has made one of them more beautiful. thank you, quinn. Very Happy

My most prized posession is my guitar, it's been there through the good and the bad, probably saved my life.

My voice. If I couldn't sing, well... I don't know who I'd be.
My hearing and my eyesight, cause I need to create.
Aside from my family and friends and if I have to pick belongings I'd say my computer, my photos, my camera, my car and my musical instruments.

Kerver
I sing semi-professionally. I have a collection of musical instruments, they fill up a room and some are antique or curiosities. I cherish the instruments and dream of one day mastering them. I'm a student of guitar, sax and keyboards, but I wouldn't say I play any of them well.

Photographs, some old linens that belonged to my grandmother, school papers and mementoes I saved from the days when my sons were still at home. Yes, my computer, to visit with the friends on a2k and all over the world.

My books and family papers.

I especially treasure the gifts my ESL students have given me. If my students ask me what I would like from their country, I always say that I would like something you can't get here. Something native to their country. So far, I've gotten a book of haiku from one Japanese student. A book about Poland carried from Poland to the US by my student's wife. A pair of Russian peasant shoes called laptje (?) They're made out of straw. A crude Russian toy/whistle. A peasant dress, handmade bag, and paper weight brought to me from Ecuador by my student's husband. A hand-painted fan in a velvet case from Spain. And a little teddy bearish thingie from Sweden. Also I've gotten Swedish, Russian, and Ecuadorian chocolates. And a Christmas tree ornament from a Chinese student. Each and every gift has touched me deeply.
