Hi everyone,
This problem isn't with the Lovatts mags, it's with the Sunday Times cryptic in the Weekend Australian, so I hope you don't mind me picking your brains!
The clue is:
Old actor tense without modern actress and singer. (no commas etc)
The pattern is:
-A-C-E-T
Here's hoping you can help me as I've been trying all kinds of ways of working it out!
regards
anng

Hi Dutchy,
Sorry I didn't reply earlier. I came home from my son's place 160km away and I'm getting too old for these journeys - they take me days to get over!!
Thank you for looking up all those words for me.
None of them seemed to fit the clue did they.
Today when I looked at the answer - I still can't see how the answer fit the clue......the answer was.....TAUCHERT....
I've just googled it and Arthur Tauchert was an early actor....hence the first part of the clue. Unfortunately I don't know how they got the rest.
Thank you for your help.

@anng,
Hi anng
CHER would be the modern singer/ actress in the answer to the clue.
Cheers
Dutchy.
@anng,
TAUT being "tense"......"without" implying "outside".
@anng,
thats gotta be the epitome of cryptic
TAUT without CHER

@oolongteasup,
...especially since Tauchert was Australian.
