Thank heavens for droid, because my wife called in tears because our 2 1/2 year old laptop crapped out on us and isn't working at all (friggin vista). So, chances are we are going to be computer shopping this afternoon after work. Yeah for new stuff, boo for having to spend money we don't really have. That being said, I figured I would go to people that probably know better than me as to what to look for. She wanted a netbook but that was more of a backup thing and now we need something for real. Another laptop, for around $500...any ideas/suggestions would be apprciated. Nothing special, just for web stuff, occasional word processing, no gaming or heavy video streaming. We are basic people.
@saintlewi,
I got my refurbished Lenovo Y510 laptop from TigerDirect.com and it hasn't failed me in almost 2 years. I LOVE THIS THING. And the price was very reasonable! $500 will get you a beast of a laptop if you don't mind a refurb. Even comes with a warranty, but I got an extended warranty through Square Trade for not much at all. Try it, I think you'll be impressed at the value.
Oh BTW if you're not aware (no doubt you are), Open Office is a Microsoft Office clone and it's free!
@The Chief,
There are several computer websites that will give you the computer you need at a very reasonable price. There is also ebay where you can get the best for less. Also best buy and walmart sell computers starting from $300. Just take your time and you will find a bargain.
@saintlewi,
Walmart will get you the cheapest option...im a bit of a geek so i always go to dell and customize.
