Dish Network RF remote antenna

I recently installed my surround sound system in my living room. Ever since, the RF remote doesn't work from the master bedroom. Obviously, the issue is the surround sound's proximity to the receiver. What I'd like to know is, can I replace their cheap antenna with a high-gain antenna? Can I extend it using an RF cable?
