I was just curious as to what everyone's idea of how old is too old to go trick or treating on halloween?

Too OLD?! That's when people think your grey beard is FAKE! I'm kidding.

Too old is when everyone says "You gotta be kidding!" and shut the door in your face -- without giving you any candy.

Too old is when you don't have to dress up any more to say you're going as a zombie.

Is there really a set limit to being too old? I think it's up to the individual.

ok, so you would give candy to a 25 year old person if they showed up at you door?

Nope -- I just choose not to go (but if the right people go with me ...)

I donno, I dressed my son up as a airborne soldier and wore my uniform and took him out last year, got a kick out of it. I think i stopped trick or treating at 12 and just started jumping kids for their candy....before you ask i dont do that now lol

lol That's another way to look at it -- When you have kids, you CAN still go trick-or-treating, using them as the guise to do so!

I would not open my door to anyone who has the word "teen" or older in their age! Too dangerous nowadays!

Then maybe I should go trick-or-treating the next Halloween I'm in the States, just to see what happens ...

What, I still go trick or treating....is there something wrong with the "Nah, I don't like candy, where's your liquor" line? Laughing

Actually, the last time I went trick or treating was in high school, with a few friends, but we did it as a lark, and it was fun. We got some candy, and a lot of "aren't you too old for this?" We used the line "We're young at heart." That gave us some good laughs, and also made some of the people doling out candy laugh too. We meant no harm to anyone, we were just having fun.

I should add that when I do have kids, and take them out for Halloween, I'm going in costume too. I won't just follow them around in the car like I see so many parents do in my neighbourhood. Confused

Well, I think a lot of kids would be disappointed, at least the younger ones, if their parents dodn't dress up. Until then, do you plan to have "invisible kids" and practise?

I always dressed up when I took my son out and it was a lot of fun. People were always trying to give me candy which I refused. There was this one guy on the street next to us that use to dress up real scary every year and chase the kids around, so one year I dressed up like the scary movie character and when he came out to chase us I started chasing him, LOL!

I had one come around a decade ago, dressed as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Technically, she did seem a little mature for trick or treating, but yeah, I gave her some candy. Lots of candy.

Well, the practice trick or treating is out this year, as we are having friends over for a more adult Halloween party.

I've never had a problem with kids being too old around here - I just seem to always underestimate the number of kids are going to show up, and run out of candy.

My first year out of university, my room-mate and I ended up giving away packages of soup and pudding from the cupboard because we had soooooo drastically under-estimated things.

If a 15 or 16 year old showed up at 6 p.m. s/he'd get candy at my house. Anyone who shows up after about 7:30 is gonna be out of luck. The larder will be empty, unless they want some dried pasta.
