@farmerman,
http://www.digitaldeliftp.com/Images/pings/Orange-blossom-special.png

The Orange Blossom Special, made famous in bluegrass by various great fiddlers was written by EdwinRouse, a Floridian.
Here's a version from 1945 and Fiddlin Arthur Smith.

I've heard fiddlers imitate yelping dogs, fire trucks, diesel horns and various other sirens.

@danon5,
I have a new Win7 OP with it's own edit system - It won't accept my old Adobe program so I'm having a few problems. Please stand by.

Another view of the wreck. Fingers crossed........

@panzade,
Very Happy

Really enjoyed that, panzade. YeeHa!
But one question: the placards. Something about law & order in Texas? Curious, if you know more.

@panzade,
Ah. Thanks. I didn't realize it was from a film, panzade. Thought it was a real life slice of political Texas life!

Oh I just took a trip on that Japanese train, too! That's just terrific! Very Happy

The Illinois Central not only ran a City of New Orleans train, it had a City of Miami train too, with a lovely color scheme
http://www.whistlin-dixie.com/pictures/PIC-0011.jpg

City of Miami Consist

* IC 4000 EMD E6A 2,000 hp diesel passenger cab unit (Chicago " Jacksonville)
* FEC 1001 EMC E3A 2,000 hp diesel passenger cab unit (Jacksonville " Miami)

1. 1900 BOUGAINVILLEA baggage / 14 crew dormitory / 22 revenue seat coach combination car ("Colored" coach reserved for black passengers..)
2. 2600 CAMELLIA 52-revenue seat coach with nurses quarters
3. 2601 JAPONICA 60-revenue seat coach
4. 4100 PALM GARDEN 48-seat dining car (Black passengers restricted to two tables behind a curtain partition next to the blazing hot kitchen..)
5. 2602 HIBISCUS 60 revenue seat coach
6. 2603 POINSETTIA 60 revenue seat coach
7. 3300 BAMBOO GROVE 32-seat tavern lounge bar 22-seat lounge observation (African-Americans were not allowed to sit in this car.)

Beginning April 23, 1949 the City of Miami added sleeping cars to its consist. These cars were carried forward of the coaches in the City of Miami consist.

Here's a scale model version of it roaring through some sleepy town like Jackson Mississippi

@Letty,
Letty, that's a great shot of an oldie. Before my time, thank goodness........

farmerman - I found a site where you can listen to different whistles, puffs, blasts, hissing, etc. of steam engines. It's a buy site but you can hit the "Preview" blue button (MP-3) by each category and get sound. Have fun...........

@danon5,
farmerman, in addition to the above site - I found this =
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VA1T8Q/ref=dm_dp_trk17/191-0785239-2341044
It's another 'buy' site but again scroll a short way down and hit "Preview" to listen to part of "The Texas and Pacific Blues" song. I had the 78 rpm record but it broke. On the flip side was the "Southern Pacific Blues". If you scroll back up to the top of the site and look 'left' you will see how to access MP-3 stuff. On that page is a huge list of railroad songs. Each can be "Previewed" like the one above.
Have fun.............
-----------
I tried the page - it's the right one but getting back to the song list isn't - I'll find it again.

@danon5,
Here's the site =
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VA1TCM/ref=dm_sp_alb
Except it's not all railroad songs. AND, the flip side of the T & P song is the "Sunshine Special"............ I'm getting too old in my old age.

@farmerman,
Hi farmer, I'll get back to ya with the menu. I'm still trying to get used to this new edit system to size the photos and sharpen them and all that jazz. Here is a pic from a post card - late 50's or early 60's - showing the depot at New Orleans, LA. On the back it says, "UNION PASSENGER TERMINAL - Owned by the City of New Orleans, this is the only municipally owned station in the country."
