So I'm watching NBC's "The Office". Great show. Very funny. The characters are very developed. They get you invested in them and you kinda care about the over all well being of of the company and its employees.

But this isn't so much about the show as it is about one of the main characters: Michael, the office manager. He is very much a man that wears his heart on his sleeve but I have never seen someone who is so self centered and doesn't realize it. He thinks he is doing things for other people, but at the core he is really trying to do it for himself.

I haven't really worked in an office setting before, but some of the things he does, I don't see how some people can let them slide without someone saying something or just telling him off. Is work in "The Office" really like this?

(but over all 5 out of 5 for the show, it's a great show and I think you should give it a shot if you haven't watched it before)

@Seed,
Well...it's not that way in any office I have worked in. I am pretty sure someone that inefficient and selfish would never stay manager for long. I have seen bits and pieces of Michael Scott in some folks I have worked with - but not the whole idiotic package. He drives me insane! But - he and Dwight are what make the show funny - without them it wouldn't work.

BTW - I don't watch The Office because I want to. I watch it because my husband LOVES it. But I will say, it is entertaining.

@mismi,
Mr B and M watch the reruns, first runs, have bought the first three seasons on dvd, you name it -- they watch it.

Much of it is really funny but some of it is downright painful to watch. Usually it's Michael making a complete ass of himself (such as during Phyllis' wedding). I couldn't watch it it was so bad.

Seed - no, I don't think Michael could ever be a real success in business, but he's a great caricature of what many office managers are really like... CLUELESS.
