The Universe is as small as it is large. We sit in the middle of the size spectrum. Perhaps the direction we should travel is not out but in. Is human consciousness limited to a 3lb brain, or can it be expressed in the merest flicker of a quark just as well?

If our mastery of space and time allows us to move without moving, then we may find that our concepts of reality have changed so much that our ideas of "where we should go" may have so many more possibilities than they do now, that we may never again desire to cross the gulf of stars. Perhaps the reasons we don't already see other life in the Universe is because there are so many better places to go and explore.
