Um...pee makes noise. Virgins don't pee any differently. What kind of Sounds?

This is a dangerous old wives tales. Whether or the hymen is intact or not, has no bearing on the sound one makes while peeing. Your friends are ignorant.

Has anyone ever come up with an idea of what that thing is supposed to be good for?

The only thing I can think of is there is an obstruction such as a hymen that provides air pubbles to form in the flow of urine thus making some hissing sound.

Good question roger... if i were a betting person, I'd say god had a mean streak.

As for air pubbles... sound has more to do with acoustics (tile rooms and porcelain) and the pressure one exerts on the side of the bowl.

I think the hymen was a protective biological device to safeguard the sensitive passage from infection from external causes just as the foreskin was as the membrane in these area are supersensitive. Not necessarily accurate or medical but just my ordinary guess.

She doesn't explain the sound. I am referring to sound from a tap when it is half open. It makes some sort of sound. I think this is the sort of sound she may be referrring to as it seems to come from her person rather than that from the toilet bowl. On the other hand she could be f_rting at the same time thus making more of a noise. I don't know.

This is complete bunk. I've read about this in several books. For example, In Ayaan Hirsi Ali's book Infidel, she speak of a similar situation. The myth is popular in places where women are valuable only for their virginity. The belief is women who pee loudly do not have a hymen, so if you're single, and you're a loud tinkiler, you're obviously a slut.

That and the urethra and the vagina are two totally separate parts.
