I finally discovered that weird sound I'd been hearing. It's a dragonfly up at the one of the skylights. Every one in a while he makes another fruitless bid for freedom and rattles his wings against the clear plastic.

So, now that you know what it is, can't you get at him to put it outside?
Will you be able to sleep now?
I bet it's dead by morning.
The skylight's up 20 feet and dragonfly's been rattling around up there for a few days now. I thought it was maybe a rodent in the walls or worse yet, my wife weirding-out with frenetic aperiodic sweeping of the back deck.
My imagination runs rampant when I'm snoozing on the couch.

Knowing what the noise is does not exclude the fact that he might still be going nuts.
@mysteryman,
Perhaps I am the only one that can hear and see the dragonfly because in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king and/or martyred.
