And I've formed the opinion that female shop keepers will deliberately steer you wrong, so that they can get you back in there when you find out your choices were so bad.

Well, kev, I'll say you're a bit lucky . . .I'm losing my hair at 23! And good point!

It's so unfair. Women get their hair, permed, teased, coloured, and no matter what they do, it's right there with them. Men run a comb through it a couple of times a day, and then one day it's all gone.

Right on Wilso, and they think having a period once a month for thirty years is some kinda big deal!

Don't forget how easy it is for us to carry a child for 9 months and how painless it is for us to give birth! It's just a shame that you'll never be able to share our joy! By the way, some women lose their hair as well.

Yes, it's not that uncommon. My mother lost more than half of hers. (I sure hope I don't inherit that!) It's not a pleasant experience for men, but at least it's accepted. Hair loss can be deeply traumatic for a woman.

No doubt. It happens to more women than people think. I have a friend who started losing hers when she was in Jr high school and it had a horrible effect on her.

Yuk!!! That guy is gross!!! Funny thing, some men actually shave their heads on purpose and I could never understand that. Go figure.

It's quite justifiable depending on what your hair is like. My hair is of a similar texture to a labrador dog's. It does only what it wants, and 17 years of experimenting found no solutions. It is straight to about 1", then goes mad-curly. It looks crap any longer than about an inch or even less. Shaving it short (about 4mm) was the best answer I could come with. I used to shave it right off (wet-shave) but that gets too cold in winter and makes it tricky to pull a jumper/t-shirt on over your head as it sticks on the stubble. It is also about 50% grey, which is ridiculous for someone of my age. I can't be bothered to dye it either and it is less noticable when very short

There are practical benefits as well. I don't need shampoo or conditioner (shower-gel is fine) and it takes me no time to sort it out every morning. I can also shave it myself at home (with clippers & guard) and save money at the hairdressers. There is also a certain school of thinking (fotunately not one that crops up for me very often) which points out that if you get in a fight, no-one can grab hold of it.

There are also certain groups in the world who use it as a "badge" (skin-heads for example, and Buddist monks!)

Sorry to bore you all with this, but I felt I had to put forward the case for the defence of the shaven-headed men of this world.

I understand now, but as far as saving money at the hair dresser goes, don't you end up spending that money you save on razor blades?

Sounds to me like you've found the perfect solution, GD! Took me 'til I was 30 to figure out what to do with mine. It's naturally wavy...in all the wrong places. Smile

Wilso

Just remember - if you hate the haircut - in 2-3 weeks it'll grow out!

Mind you, if you like it - in 3-4 weeks you'll have to get it cut again!

This I gotta see...when am I going down the coast again? (this weekend, and end of month, probably!) ............... Cool ....

OK, OK, I've got to make an appointment to get it done. I need a haircut anyway. Not to make some of the guys jealous but just lately it's really been growing fast. And at almost 38, there's not the slightest hint of grey in it.

Wilso - I am jealous of anyone who doesn't have grey hair. I got my first one at age 14 (it's genetic from my mum's family), and it's been downhill ever since... What style has your friend suggested for you, and what style do you have now?

I'd never considered women losing their hair, it must be a very upsetting thing, it's bad enough for the fellas.

I'm one of the lucky ones as well. I'll be 40 soon and have a mere few grey hairs and the ones I do have blend in with my hair so you don't even notice them. My father was that way as well and I have his baby fine hair.

Kev
I can only imagine how terrible it must be for male or female. My brother started losing his hair when he was 16 and only has very little left on the sides and he's only 41. What he does have is all grey as well. By the way, that monthly period is no picnic either ;-)

What I've got now is in my avatar. The suggestion I've had is to get sort of shaved very short up the back somewhat and at the sides. I"m not too concerned. As I said, it's growing pretty fast.
