hello,can anybody tell me the answer for 17 down in cryptic xword in colossus 123.The clue says ,Risks to take on board. And could you also explain how you worked it out,i'm stumped.thank you,cp.

The answer is STAKES. stakes is a synonym for risks.

Furthermore, the letters which form the word "take" are included in the answer, between S and S, which is an abbreviation of "steamship", often seen as part of a ship's name. For example SS Oriana. You take things "on board" ships.
