As far as I am concerned, this forum is a small but growing community. I do have two potent beliefs about threads and posting:

First, To prevent misunderstandings, we should address or acknowledge the posters whenever possible. Often threads are too long for quotes, so that would eliminate a lot of "taking things the wrong way". Of course, we all understand that some threads don't require this, because of the nature of the original, i.e. The Never Ending Limerick.

Second: If one posts a thread, he should be able to monitor it properly. It becomes discouraging to respond, especially to unanswered posts, only to find that the author has nothing to say in return.

Have you any suggestions?

How about attributing quotes from withing the discussion so we know who is being responded to, as well as external pasted material?

Hey, Rog. Not quite certain what you mean (I'm certain you're not surprised Razz ).

Another thing that I would like to see since Mamajuana's death, is a companion piece to "welcoming new members; a thread that explains who will be gone for a bit from the forum. Think that's viable?

It' an idea, and it would be interesting. I kind of feel it would fall into disuse.

Well, in some forums, there is material that is clearly pasted in from an outside source, but without attribution, it could be taken as original writing from the poster. Anyway, there are times when the rest of us would like to evaluate the source.

Oh, I see what you're saying, Rog. Just long...long..posts that have been cut and pasted without reference or proper citing. I totally agree.

I have often wondered about Larry Richette. I realize that he could be caustic, but I still feel concern for his where abouts.

ehBeth. I am truly glad to know that Larry is ok. Smile

Husker, I think we need to cite stuff just as one would be required to do in a research paper. If we are not certain of the author, we should say so. Beedle once remarked that some fan of his assumed that his original songs were performed by him but not written by him, just as though that was an impossible situation. duh.

Someone I knew on Abuzz used to occasionally have a roll call. Razz

Letty - Fine ideas. Potent -- I like that word.

I try to do both, but wonder with the first if I'm not excluding someone else when I name another. That leads to commentary directed at several individuals in the same post, a practice Craven advocated.

What I think we should do (but fail myself) is make posts short. <I'm so darn wordy.> This goes against the first, to some extent. At least, I like a post broken up with emoticons, spaces, images & quotes.

Roger -- I agree that citations should be made. Anybody can quickly learn to type the BBCode for quote and end-quote, even if just posting from quick reply.

I agree with Piffka about leaving spaces. My eyes glaze over when I see a gigantic post running together with no breaks. I tend to pass even if I'm interested in the subject.

Piffka, my dear, I think most of us try and acknowledge, but we can't possibly do so with each person. I usually try and respond to the creator of the thread along with.." et al" Razz

Well, Letty, I do love to see my name in print... ;)probably most of us do. It is a nice gesture & I will try to follow your advice. You are the Queen of Grace at a2k, from what I hear, lauded here and abroad.

Fealola -- Yes. Glazed eyes even though the post may be fascinating. It is hard to read a lot on the screen.

Husker, Take a couple of steroids and call Arnie in the morning. Razz

I peek in the gallery every once in a while, but I don't recall seeing your face among the mug shots. I'll go take another look through the keyhole.
