Can the companies that I owe money to threaten to take my house or flat once that I am in a Debt Management Plan?

Sure, if you are in the U.S. Your use of the word 'flat' makes me think you are working under a different legal system. Here, Debt Management Plan is not at all similar to bankruptcy, which has its own rules.
