Old Oldsmobile Van - new headlights...little problem

I just acquired a used Oldsmobile Van - so happy to have it. My Dad just changed out the lights - and I have noticed that there is condensation in them...got any idea why? And will it mess up the lights again? What can I do to keep that from happening? I hate to ask my Dad -He will be up here tomorrow to do something about it....I would like to figure this one out - well - with your help - on my own... Wink

Any suggestions I would appreciate.

@mismi,
what the hell are you doing up this late...

old cars lose the seal in the headlight.

(live with it unless you are eating light bulbs...)

I canna' sleep Rock. So, I am watching "It's me or the dog" and piddling around here.

Thanks...It's fine right now. But he just replaced them.

I will live with it...I'm about to go try to sleep again. Wish me luck Wink

Did he (dad) use new (bought from a shop) lights or lights from another car/van (bought from a wrecker)?
Exactly which lights (headlights, tail lights, indicators) did he change and/or which bit of the lights. globes? whole unit? lenses?

@dadpad,
They were bought new, the whole lights - headlights. The old ones had gotten condensation in them too...apparently causing a film on the lens so that they were dim...hard to see at night. They are great now...but since I see the same thing happening - I am wondering if there can be anything to prevent it.

I can live with it...we can change them again if we need to I guess...just thinking and wondering.

Thanks dadpad

@mismi,
that IS quite the sexy pose...

to answer your question, new assemblies (aftermarket) are about $120 a side.

your papa replaced a bulb, is my guess.

the halogen bulbs insert into the headlamp assembly. the assembly is sealed against moisture, but corrodes over time, 'specially in muggy old Alabama.

@Rockhead,
You are being difficult....THIS is what you think looks like a dustbuster

lay off ma van man. I have seperated kids now...who care if it is ugly - though I think it is bee-yoo-ti-ful.

Nope - My Pappy replaced the lens too...they had scum or something on the inside...I suppose he could have cleaned them...but knowing my Dad...no. He's too old to go to that much trouble.

@Rockhead,
Din't work Wink apparently it has as much to do with WHO is getting breast enlargement as anything. I guess Oldsmobile Silhouettes just don't do it for most people. Razz

But that was very clever....made me laugh - thank you - love to laugh.

@Rockhead,
I pay no attention to those things...you mean someone actually follows you around and thumbs down you? Thinking they need to find a new hobby.

@Rockhead,
I had such a setup on a Chevy pickup, and there was moisture forming there as well. I forget the details, thankfully, but it did cause some odd behavior in the signal/parking lights. Honest.

@roger,
the bulbs get HOT.

if the seals are compromised, moisture gets inside and...

a longtime GM problem.
