Farmer Brown rose as usual before dawn. Since it was dark and his lights weren't working, he had to dress in the dark. He reached into a wash basket to find a pair of socks. Eight black socks, eight blue socks, eight green socks and eight brown socks were scattered in the basket. What is the fewest number of socks Farmer Brown could select in order to guarantee himself a matching pair?
@LaReinaSchmitt,
Two. Simply select the pai that reflects the least light and that would be the black socks. Or choose the pair that reflected the most light and that's the green.
That's my answer and I'm sticking to it.
@LaReinaSchmitt,
Since Farmer Brown only has 2 feet, he is only going to wear 2 socks.
If he selects 5 socks, we know for sure he will have a matching pair but how will he know which of the 5 to put on his 2 feet since it is dark and he can't see the socks?
