Wanna See My Operation????

As some of you know, Mr. P. went in for surgery on Thursday. Gratefully, it is over, and he is home, the next day after the operation.

The procedure was to remove a cyst that was growing on his kidney. It was done laparoscopically with robotic assistance. Before the procedure, the doctor asked us if we wanted a disc of the operation. "sure" we said, "Why not?"

Well..............I have seen operations on YouTube, but never one in such detail, with the clarity of this disc. It brings new meaning to the old expression, "Wanna see my operation"?

I am absolutely amazed at how far surgery has come. The procedure involved three less than one inch incisions, one for the camera, and two for the robotic tools.

We just spent over an hour watching the surgery in rapt fascination. I threatened Mr. P. that I would upload it to You Tube, an idea that did not sit well with him.

What do you think of the idea of being able to see your own surgery, after the fact, of course? Are you familar with robotic surgery?

@Phoenix32890,
I think we should box it with the movie that was taken of the killer tree roots in our waste water pipe. It was taken a few years ago and is black and white and cramped, given it a somewhat Blair Witch quality. Would you go into business with me? Perhaps someone has video of a real estate closing or something to round out the collection. Smile

@Phoenix32890,
Hello Phoenix32890
Never had surgery, but, if I did, I would want to see it. That would be neat.
Glad Mr P is o.k.

I have one of my cataract surgery. It was amazing seeing the tiny incisions being made, the tools that were inserted into my eye to make incisions. That was followed by another tool that broke up the old lense and vacuumed it out and a new lense inserted, folded and then rolled out & into place.
My 7 yr old granddaughter is thoroughly fascinated by the video and has watched it several times.

I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I wouldn't be extraordinary disapponted if I mised that show Wink

Yes, I'm familiar with such operations: it's ten years ago that the first robotically assisted heart bypass was done here in Germany, and last year, the head orthopaedic surgeon at our local hospital "invented" some new procedure - local/regional papers reported a lot about it.

And Mrs. Walter's bladder operation last year was done so as well.

@Magginkat,
Maggincat- Watching cataract surgery would be fascinating. What I found so interesting is the way that the surgeon had to move the tiny instruments around, and pick up what to me looked like the thinnest pieces of tissue. When the cyst was all excised, an instrument that looked like a tube sucked up all the stuff, just like a vacuum cleaner.
