Closest thing to a new-tech IC engine in actual use is probably the Bombardier/Evinrude new-gen 2-stroke which you see being advertised for outboard boat engines.

The thing I'd hoped to see being used by now was the Mighty (Massive Yet Tiny) engine:

This one appears to be the real thing. I'm guessing it suffered for a while because it has a superficial resemblence to another idea which turned up in the mid 90s and did not turn out to be feasible i.e. the so-called split-cycle engine, but again the resemblance only lasted until you took the first hard look at this new concept.
