Can chunk also mean a clack or a noise? Block makes sense though. This is one of those clues where the synonym is not exactly correct. Do you agree?

My Big Chambers Crossword Dictionary gives 10 alternatives for "chunk". I feel all the synonyms are certainly correct.

hunk, lump, mass, slab, block, piece, wedge, wodge, dollop and portion.

As you can see nothing even remotely resembles 'clack' or 'noise'.

I agree with you however, dictionary.com suggests
v. intr.
To make a dull clacking sound: eg. listened to the rundown copier chunk along.
So I was just checking
