Can anybody please explain why this got 8 thumbs down = -8.

Or have missed something regarding thumbs up and down?

My understanding is that "thumbing down" of a first post in a thread effectively "hides" that thread from view of the person who "thumbs it down."

Astonishingly, it appears that many of the members have no interest in word-games, lovatt crosswords etc. and are choosing to by-pass these types of threads in order to keep them off their viewing pages.

As these people will not be reading this post, I feel safe in describing them as illiterate morons with a penchant for wallowing in sub-culture.

That is really confusing and missleading
There is a big difference in giving a thumb down because I am not being interested in a topic or a special person and giving a thumb down because of something I really don't like in form of a nasty person.
I don't know people so well here and with Lovatt getting now -11 I would maybe miss out on her posts and miss something interresting.
There ought to be two systems
One showing the thumb down and one not interested

I agree totally with lmur, however I will ignore the illiterate morons and keep on answering any Lovatts questions.
