Trend bucking: statistics be damned.

I have a friend who has a 10 year old son. He's a happy well adjusted kid. She's a happy well adjusted mom.

She's 25. So yes, she had her kid when she was 15.

They are still together, this couple. They are still happy together. Very happy.

She amazes me.

She is the only person I've ever met who has really bucked all the doom and gloom predictions that statistics would say would happen to her. (Okay... there was my friend who died but didn't die.)

When I think of my life I can see some potential trend bucking but when I really think about it.... not so much.

I was next door to homeless and now I own two houses. (Me and a zillion other people.)

I worked in a field that was mostly populated by men. (Thank you one hundred years of women who made that possible.)

I became a parent at 45. (YAWN in adoptionville.)

I've never even cantered a trend!

Have you?

I lost my hearing for no discernible reason starting at age 13.

That one there got me in medical textbooks.

But I keep running into people who either know someone or who had the same thing happen themselves -- no discernible reason, roughly puberty-ish -- so I'm not as singular as all that.

You're the only person I've ever come across that had that happen to them.

Even if there are a few others I would say it definately bucked the statistics.

I started thinking about this after looking at dlowan's thread on the flood of abuse memoirs. It seems that the things we think set us apart are really pretty common. That got me wondering about things that really are uncommon, not singular, but rare.

Teenage prostitutes are never supposed to amount to anything, if they survive at all.

Drug addicts should be the scum of the earth and in and out of rehab most of their lives

people with felonies should always commit crimes over and over again because they know nothing else.

One night stands make for horrible relationships

Poor people in a rich economy never make it out of thier economic status

Fat people are always unhealthy with bad cholesterol and other body problems. They are also always depressed and dont do anything with their lives.

Women in their 30s who have babies are supposed to be more patient parents then the 20 somethings

People of 'nature based religions' are only doing so to go against the tide

Interracial marriges and bi racial children will have a hard life

interesting.

I'm with you I've never done it either. I even refused to have it played at my wedding - that is until my little flower girl asked with her big brown eyes. I did break down and allow it then - but I still didn't dance to it.

"you big silly" should go in as a PG swear word.
