"I was thinking that it might be fun if we all bring a little something (a knick-knack) with a slightly 'silly' twist on it to wish C and J well in their new life. I was thinking we might throw all these offerings into a box and have C and J select them out at randon and guess at whom of us had given them these daft (I mean sensible) gifts. . . just a bit of fun!"

The above dread words appeared in an email recently.

I have friends, in their sixties, abandoning us and going off to live near Lake MacQuarie (it's in NSW, lots of bush and such) and we are doing a farewell lunch this Saturday.

What the HELL can I get them that is serious AND silly!!!

They have everything....

C is a doing weird paint jobs on everything nut, but, despite this, is a fiercely intelligent woman.

J is a scientist and a bush and garden nut, but his MS has him confined to a gopher.

They're going to be living in a few acres of bush.

I can't think of ANYTHING!

Any ideas?

Sorry...no seeds, plants etc.

This is BUSH.......and you have to be very careful re planting anything, also, as serious gardeners, I wouldn't DARE pre-empt anything they are going to do.

Oh! Oh! Silly and practical? Why a wearable gardening stool, of course!

Quote:
This excellent Wearable Gardening Stool may look funny, but it's no joke! It is widely used in agricultural settings for picking vegetables because it is so efficient and easy to move from spot to spot.

The gardening stool features a seat made of sturdy co-polymer with molded-in holes for easy adjustment or replacement of harness straps. The Wearable Garden Stool leaves your hands free to weed, pick vegetables, plant, etc. Cuts down on aching backs and saves time and labor.

Soft nylon harness with snap-on lock keeps stool in place comfortably while walking or sitting. Pedestal leg is adjustable in height from 13 to 18 inches and has a coil spring at the bottom for firm anti-slip base. Seat is 11.5 inches by 7.5 inches. Wt. 4 lbs.

For whatever reason the image won't post but you can see it and see it in action at: http://www.cleanairgardening.com/gardenseat.html

if I were you, I'd want to strangle the person that came up with this idea....

Have you emailed them a thousand questions yet?

Were you planning on doing anything before they came up with this idea?

Do you have a link for those mushrooms Tai? I'd kind of like some of those!

The reason I suggested the stool was because of the MS. I don't know the severity of his case since MS can be all over the board but it might allow him to continue his passion for a bit longer.
