I just saw a movie called "Miss Potter" with Renee Zellweger playing Beatrix Potter. It was so good. I enjoyed it so much. One of the things it said that I find wonderful is that Beatrix Potter donated 4000 acres of land to Britain to be preserved. I must read more about her. I have all of her books and have read them to my children countless numbers of times but I never knew about her, and I am now on a mission.
Has anyone read anything about her that you can recommend?
No, but you might see if Tomkitten's avatar doesn't look somewhat familiar.
I don't know if the motion picture pointed this out, but Miss Potter was a mycologist-manquée, whose father would not pay to further her education, because she was a woman. She turned to her children's books because she had been frustrated in her earlier efforts. Many of her illustrations of mushrooms and other fungi are used in textbooks to this day.
See what I mean? Amazing. I am a huge fan.
I always appreciated that she had insisted that the books be printed on small, sturdy pages, because children are hard on their playthings, and have small hands. I think very highly of Miss Potter.
I remember that she not only donated land to the National Trust but her flock of carefully bred sheep who would pasture on that land.
Here is a great website...
The Beatrix Potter Society
And I am going to go looking for this book tomorrow:
The Tale of Beatrix Potter: a Biography by Margaret Lane.
Can't wait to learn more.
Today is Beatrix Potters birthday. She has quickly become one of my favorite people. Someone to be inspired by. She truly does inspire me.

I heart Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle.
she's so industrious.
Don't read Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre Choderos de Laclos Chai.
Industriousness is the last thing on the heroine's mind.
@Chai,
She is my hero - role model if you will
