For many years, whenever I found myself in the city, and passing a begging homeless person, I would give them money.
I figured what they did with the money was their business not mine, and given that their lives were borderline, a fleeting comfort was better than nothing; especially in light of the fact that their desperate lives were unlikely to improve. I never gave money to squeegee-kids though, as I saw that as an invasion of my personal property.
Then about 10 years ago, my wife suggested that since the money was more likely to go for cigarettes and alcohol, than food and clothing, it was not worth it, and I stopped giving money to the begging homeless.
I am not talking about contributing to charitable organizations, and soup kitchens etc, only how I've dealt with the begging homeless on a direct personal level over the years.
How 'bout you?
Try it yourselves for a month or so. Oh, go ahead, just do it.
I don't give a **** what they do with the money. I give it to them anyway.
Yeah, I might go back to that point of view, it's been the one I have had most of my life.
Plus, The Begging Homeless, nice title if you are a facist.
I never give money to the street corner beggars.
I noticed the same woman, at the same intersection for weeks... with her cute little dog.
(Boomer had a thread on this a while ago.)
I've been homeless and among these beggars. Sure they mostly waste the money on drink and smokes. So what? We mostly all throw away money on useless enterprises.
I wasn't gonna do this thread
In my own limited window experience...
The ones who beg publicly are not real, 99% of the time...
I watch 'em come and go from their spots all day. (IRL)

Like any other segment of society, you have the real and the phony. It would be a mistake to confuse the professional beggar with the begging homeless.

A wholly specious and inept characterization.
Well, I gave to Marie.
Twennyfive cents.
Talk to Joe Nation about the homeless. Man has some observations.
I lived around them and may one day soon enough be among them.
I don't like the us/them stuff. At the least, there is some confusion in that scenario. I don't see this border that you all seem to have assurance of.
Of course there are scams. There are whole scam cityscapes worldwide.
There are also people in deep ****.
Specious? Nah.
At the least, it's putting a load on.
Inept, yes, I sometimes fool with words in ways that can be taken as inept, but aren't.
And sometimes I'm inept with words.
Could you explain about my ineptitude?
I suppose it is about the word fascist.
Watches, as he runs to the dictionary.
OK. it's a straw man logical fallacy to ask me to explain about your ineptitude, as I never made such a claim. I asserted your characterization was inept.
Since you made the initial claim, you have the obligation to substantiate said claim not me as per

Chumly, you are past starting to be irritating. Please do not do that tonite...

Sorry doesn't wash.........your post is simply a Special Pleading logical fallacy, in that you apply standards to me while taking yourself and ossobuco to be exempt from same.
I'm not interested in following you, chum. I'll trust you will take that as weakness, but, in fact it is related to boredom. Do go on all about it, and do interfere on other threads, such as simple party question threads, with your philosophic take. Surely someone will have interest.
